Diana
Jones, speaking on behalf of Brenda Reneau Wynn, Oklahoma Labor
Commissioner, stated that reaching SHARP certification is not an easy task.
There are only 33 SHARP workplaces in Oklahoma, and less than 600
nationwide. Cameron Glass received this recognition due to the dedication
and commitment of the company in providing a safe workplace as well as the
employees who made it happen. She thanked Cameron Glass for going the extra
mile in making it one of the safest places to work.
Jones
presented a letter from Representative John Wright with his congratulations
and commendation for achieving the certification and encouraging employee
participation. Citations from the House of Representatives and from the
Oklahoma Department of Labor recognizing Cameron Glass’ SHARP achievement
were presented next. SHARPS’ “Safety Pays” flag was then presented. Jim
Cameron, President of Cameron Glass, received the awards and flag on behalf
of the employees.
Cameron
Glass first achieved SHARP certification May 2002 after two years of
preparation. This certificate was good for one year and was renewed in 2003.
Because of their safe workplace and dedication to the program, Cameron’s
current SHARP certificate is now good for two years. There are fewer than
ten companies in Oklahoma that have reached the two-year level.
Mayor
Carter stated the city of Broken Arrow is fortunate to have employers with
diligence to safety and health, and he puts Cameron Glass at the top of his
list.
Alex
Skoterek, Cameron Glass’ Safety Manager, was recognized for his dedication
to the program. He acknowledged the safety committee: Melvin Anderson,
Melissa Pittman, Tanner Garrett, Leonard Hughes, Johnny Nail, Shelly
Logsdon, and Sherwill Environmental Consultant, Reasha Saltsman.
Jim Cameron
closed the ceremony by challenging Cameron Glass employees to a
“three-peat,” to make the certification happen again.
