Cameron Glass, Inc. Receives Third SHARP Certification
Cameron Glass, Inc. first achieved SHARP certification in May 2002 after two years of preparation. This certificate was renewed in 2003. In January 2004, Cameron was recognized with a two-year certification. At the time, there were fewer than ten companies in Oklahoma reaching the two-year level. During that presentation, Jim Cameron, President, challenged employees to a “three-peat” – to make the certification happen again.
Cameron accomplished this "three-peat" on Tuesday, March 14, by receiving their third Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) Certification from the Department of Labor.
In attendance were Cameron Glass employees as well as Brenda Reneau, Oklahoma Labor Commissioner; Riza McCoy, Daniel Shaw, and Paige Jones, Oklahoma Department of Labor; Pat McGuigan, Deputy Labor Commissioner; Linda Hensley and Terri Cleveland, Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce; Fred Razook and Bill Ward, OSHA Consultants.
Reneau began her presentation with praise for all Cameron employees. "I wanted to be here today because you have accomplished something so rare. I don’t think you understand just what an accomplishment this is. There is only one other company in Oklahoma that has done this. Management can’t do it - they have to give you support to do it yourself. It’s great how you work together as a team."
She went on to state that of 90,000 businesses in the state of Oklahoma, only 30 have exemption. "You are one of only two that have recertified three times," she said. "It is a testament to the kind of work ethic we have in Oklahoma. It’s wonderful. I am so very proud of Oklahoma as a state, and especially with what you’ve done."
Reneau presented Cameron with the third commendation as well as a third "Safety Pays" flag. "Even though you already have two flags, I am giving you another because you have earned it," Reneau said.
Cameron accepted the commendation and flag on behalf of all the employees at Cameron. He expressed his appreciation for all of the hard work and dedication each employee has committed to achieve this goal.
